Follow the steps below to fix this problem. If hidden, unhide the active partition and set the active partition to type 0x7:
1. Boot your PC using Windows Vista DVD.
2. From the Windows Vista installation screen, click Next and then click Install Now.
3. Press SHIFT+F10 to open a command prompt.
4. Type diskpart, and press Enter.
5. Type select disk 0 and press Enter.
6. Type select partition 1 and press Enter.
7. Type detail partition and press Enter.
8. Your PC will show all the partition attributes are displayed.
9. Note where it says "Hidden: Yes".
10. Make a note the volume number.
11. For example, let's assume that hidden volume is displayed as Volume 0.
12. Type select volume 0 and press Enter.
13. Type attributes volume clear hidden and press Enter.
14. Once again type detail volume and then press Enter. The volume 0 should show as "Hidden: No".
15. Type exit and press Enter. (Repeat this step twice)
16. Reboot your PC using your old OS and restart the Windows Vista installation
