Hi guys,
I'm currently in a dilemma between the 5800x and 5900x to upgrade to from my 3600. Here are my specs:
R5 3600, RX 6800XT, B450 MSI Gaming Pro Carbon, 32GB DDR4 3200mHz CL16, NZXT X62
I play at 1440p 180Hz (Overwatch, Valorant, Warzone, R6 Siege, Minecraft) at pretty high settings, and I'm looking to stream at 1080p60 on H264 (as I don't have NVENC and my CPU should have more headroom anyway given my local res). As long as I can maintain my local performance while streaming, I'd want to maximise my stream quality.
The main issue is the pricing. Where I am, I can find the 5800X at ~400 USD, whereas the 5900X is around ~575 USD for some reason (I suspect due to higher demand for the latter, who knows). That means a 150-200USD gap for four more cores. I don't have anything else I need to upgrade, but it's still a hefty sum either way.
I know the gaming performance (without streaming) will be essentially identical, but what differences will I see in terms of both local game performance and stream quality when I'm doing both simultaneously? And would it be worth the extra ~200USD? The 3900X and 3950X are also at the same prices respectively, but they're used instead of new, and I think I'd appreciate the benefits I would see locally from the single-core gains more. Opinions?
Edit: I'll also be looking to do a moderate overclock if possible, since my motherboard and cooler should be able to take it. I've heard mixed comments on how hot each chip gets though? Heard that the 5800x runs hotter.
